TiE UK
During my time at high school, I was required to undertake a 2 week work placement through the Easter holiday period.
I worked at the UK chapter of a business-focused organisation called TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs). They were founded in 1992 in the Silicon Valley and their aims are to foster entrepreneurship globally. As such, they are able to utilise their large network to provide mentoring, networking, funding and incubation to new businesses. They also host many events such as talks, panel discussions and pitching competitions.
The main tasks I was given included: managing accounts; organising an event; sorting emails; creating databases; designing flyers for upcoming events and finally, researching similar organisations. I was able to brush up on my research skills through the project that I was given. I also learned a bit about accounts which I previously had no experience in dealing with. Lastly, I learned about using excel spreadsheets effectively and managing events.
